Tamil Nadu CM's Breakfast Scheme Boosts Children's Memory

Chennai: A study conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission has revealed that more than 90% of children benefiting from the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme have shown improved memory. The interim report, released on Monday, highlights a marked increase in classroom attention, interest in learning and sports, and punctuality in attending school.

The study, covering 5,410 children across 100 schools, found enhanced recall of previously taught lessons, along with improvements in handwriting, reading, and speaking abilities.

Launched on September 15, 2022, the Breakfast Scheme has been gradually expanded and now benefits 20.73 lakh children in 34,987 government and state-aided primary schools.

The report, presented by State Planning Commission’s executive vice chairman J. Jayaranjan to Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, also included assessments of other key government schemes such as the Pudumai Penn Scheme, which provides financial support to girl students for higher education, and the Ennum Ezhuthum Scheme, aimed at improving primary education quality.

In addition to these, two studies on urban heat islands and district cooling systems in Tamil Nadu were also presented.
