Tamil Nadu Govt. Signs ₹5,000 Crore MoU for Footwear Project

The new footwear project in Karur and Perambalur will create 50,000 jobs, boosting economic growth in industrially backward districts.

Chennai: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday for the establishment of a non-leather footwear manufacturing project in Karur and Perambalur districts, with an investment of ₹5,000 crore, generating employment opportunities for 50,000 people.

The agreement was entered into by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau, the investment promotion agency of the State Government with Evervan Kothari Footwear Limited, a subsidiary of the Phoenix Kothari Group at the State Secretariat.

As these industries are being set up in the industrially backward districts of Karur and Perambalur, a significant number of job opportunities will be created for the youth, especially women, in these districts and the surrounding regions. This initiative will not only increase individual income levels but also contribute to the overall economic development of the area, an official press release said.

The Department of Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce continues to actively implement various initiatives to attract large-scale investments, create numerous job opportunities for Tamil Nadu’s youth, especially women, enhance their quality of life, and ensure widespread development across the state, it said.
