Tamil Nadu: Thiruvallvar Day in Raj Bhavan
Chennai: Governor R N Ravi celebrated ‘Thiruvallur Thirunal’ at the Raj Bhavan on Friday, which, according to him, was the auspicious Vaikasi Anusham, the day, as per thousands of years of tradition, was Thiruvalluvar Day.
Devotees and admirers of Thiruvalluvar from several walks of life and various parts of Tamil Nadu, from other states and abroad participated in the event, in which Ravi recalled his long connection with Thiruvalluvar and Thirukkural since his school days.
Some Kurals shaped and transformed his life, he said and added that his current assignment to Tamil Nadu gave him an opportunity to study Thirukkural in depth.
The Governor said that he had read several translations and commentaries on Thirukkural– written mostly from intellectual, ideological and spiritual perspectives and asserted that Thiruvalluvar was too big for an ordinary human mind to have full grasp of him and his teachings.
‘It is a matter of pride for us that Thiruvalluvar was born on this Punniya Bhoomi and spoke and wrote in the most ancient and rich Tamil language. Thiruvalluvar is the most precious divine gift to humanity,’ he said.
He also felicitated the cultural troupe led by Bharathi Thirumagan and her troupe who performed ‘Villuppattu’ on the title “Valluvar Vanthaar” and launched a e-flipbook –“Thiruvalluvar - Patron Sant of Tamil Nadu” by Dr.D.K.Hari and Dr.D.K.Hema Hari, founders of Bharath Gyan.,
Earlier, the Governor, along with other dignitaries, paid floral tributes to the portrait of Thiruvalluvar.
