TN: DMK to hold statewide protests over Amit Shah's remarks on Ambedkar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on BR Ambedkar have ignited a fierce political controversy, with opposition parties uniting to criticize the BJP-led Union government. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) announced statewide protests across Tamil Nadu on Thursday condemning Shah for insulting Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticized Shah indirectly. "Those who care about the country, the people, and the security of the Constitution will only mention the name of the revolutionary Ambedkar!" he wrote on X account.

Stalin also accused AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami of staying silent on the issue.

The controversy over Amit Shah's remarks has deepened the divide between the BJP and opposition parties, setting the stage for further political confrontations in the coming days.

Shah’s comments in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, suggesting Congress leaders would have earned a place in heaven if they had invoked God’s name instead of repeatedly mentioning Ambedkar, triggered widespread outrage.

“It has become a fashion to say ‘Ambedkar, Ambedkar.’ If they had taken God's name this often, they would have secured heaven for seven lifetimes." said Amit Shah.
