TVK Govt Revokes Astrologer's Appointment as OSD After Backlash

Chennai: The government on Wednesday rescinded its order appointing Ricky Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as officer on special duty (OSD) to Chief Minister (political) following widespread opposition to the move from political leaders and members of the public
Earlier in the day, several political leaders including DMDK’s Premalatha Vijayakanth, Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi leader M. Tamimun Ansari, VCK's Vanni Arasu and MMK's M.H. Jawahirullah spoke against the order in the Assembly.
Permalatha said that if Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay wanted to reward Vettrivel with some position, he could have appointed him in a personal capacity and not given a government posting.
Since Tuesday, social media was abuzz with the news of Mr Vettrivel, who had appeared on television channels supporting the TVK in the run up to the elections, with some saying that he also dabbled in astrology and that he had predicted the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam sweeping the Assembly elections much earlier.
