TVK Worker Attempts Self-Harm Over Delay in Vijay’s Swearing-In

He sustained 30% burn injuries and has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam, where he is currently undergoing intensive treatment in critical condition

Upset over the prolonged wait to see TVK chief and actor Vijay as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a party worker attempted self-harm in Tirunelveli on Saturday.

Isakkiyappan (47) is a resident of a village near Chettikulam in Tirunelveli district and serving as the Deputy Secretary of the Volunteers Wing of the Valliyoor Union in TVK. He sustained 30% burn injuries and has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam, where he is currently undergoing intensive treatment in critical condition. He took the step, allegedly over the suspense over the swearing-in ceremony of party chief and actor Vijay.

Around four months ago, he had also pierced both his cheeks with a 16-foot-long lance as a public display of his ambition to see Vijay becoming the CM. His self-immolation attempt came as the TVK engaged in non-stop attempts to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
