Chennai: The DMK staged a large-scale protest in Chennai against the BJP-led Union Government, opposing the New Education Policy (NEP), the Trilingual Language System, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s stance on fund allocation.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin led the protest, joined by leaders from DMK alliance parties, including MDMK’s Vaiko MP, Congress State President Selvaperunthagai, VCK’s Thirumavalavan MP, IUML’s Kader Mohideen, TMMK’s Abdul Samad, and Tamilaga Valurimai Party’s Velmurugan MLA. Several Tamil Nadu ministers, DMK MLAs, and MPs also participated.
Protesters held placards demanding the release of Tamil Nadu’s rightful funds and rejecting the imposition of a trilingual policy. Addressing the crowd, Udhayanidhi Stalin declared that he was participating as a DMK youth wing cadre, not as Deputy CM. He accused the Union Government of favoring Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat in budget allocations while neglecting Tamil Nadu.
"Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Tamil Nadu will receive funds only if it accepts the trilingual policy. But we are only asking for our rightful tax money. This is Dravidian land, Periyar’s land—no one can intimidate us," Udhayanidhi asserted. He warned that any attempt to suppress Tamil Nadu’s rights would face fierce resistance, recalling past protests like "Go Back Modi" and threatening an even stronger "Get Out Modi" movement.
He urged the immediate release of education funds, stressing that Tamil Nadu respects democracy but will not hesitate to fight back if pushed. "Tamils value love but will never surrender to intimidation. We will never accept Hindi imposition," he said.
Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s historical opposition to Hindi imposition, Udhayanidhi credited the state’s two-language policy for global Tamil success. He challenged AIADMK’s silence, urging them to join the protest. "AIADMK, bearing Anna’s name, must stand against NEP. This is not just a DMK issue—it concerns every Tamil’s future."
Calling for unity beyond party lines, he warned that thousands would resist any forced imposition of Hindi. "Education should not be politicized. Release Tamil Nadu’s rightful funds now," he demanded.
