10 more lakes to be revived: HYDRAA chief

Hyderabad: HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, accompanied by Lake Man of India Anand Malligavad, visited Bakshikunta and Regulakunta lakes in the Chandanagar division on Monday to evaluate ongoing development and rejuvenation programmes.

Ranganath announced plans to develop 10 more lakes in the city as part of the first phase of similar rejuvenation efforts.
During their visit, Ranganath reviewed initiatives to divert untreated sewage away from the lakes. Residents of the Aparna Hill Rock gated community demonstrated their efforts to treat wastewater using a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) before releasing it into stormwater channels, to conserve the lake.
At Regulakunta Lake in Deepti Sri Nagar, the commissioner and Malligavad assessed water quality and talked to locals. Citizens raised concerns about a 5,000-square-yard plot initially designated for public use allegedly being privatised. In response, Ranganath promised steps to protect the land and prevent encroachment.
