16 Families Relocated from Musi Slums to 2BHK Houses in Vanasthalipuram

Hyderabad: Sixteen families who were staying in nondescript slums on the Musi riverbed in Bhavaninagar at Kothapet got pre-Dasara gift with the government shifting them to 2BHK houses in Vanasthalipuram.

These families told Deccan Chronicle called the allotment of houses came as a gift from the state government, and recalled their woes while staying in their old tin sheds.

“I never imagined that for three members of our family we will have a two bedroom house,” said Dobbala Manemma, a beneficiary. Her two daughters are married and she stays with her husband and son in a tin shed near the Musi.

Pidugu Narsamma, another beneficiary, recalled the poor sanitation and health hazards caused by mosquitoes.

“I thank Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for allotting me this house. A pucca house was a distant dream for me, and my family’s health will no longer be at stake,” she said.

Another resident noted that they would continue to stay with their neighbours. “We are happy that all the 16 families have been relocated to the same 2BHK colony,” said another beneficiary. Most of them were discussing whether to shift immediately or wait for petharamasa dianalu (Pitru Paksha) to end and Navratri to start.

“We have to check the water and electricity connenctions, but we are happy that we have a permanent house now,” said Pentala Sailu.
