During the reward program organised by Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau at the police headquarters here, Director-General of Police Jitender appreciated the efforts of the police in securing punishment to those involved in drugs cases.

He presented awards to Investigation Officers (IOs), court duty officers, and public prosecutors (PPs) for their exceptional work in securing convictions under NDPS Act cases. These commendations were based on successful outcomes in NDPS cases where judgments were delivered during the year 2024, in which 39 cases were convicted.

Among 39 cases, the police units in Mahabubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Khammam, Cyberabad, Kumurambheem Asifabad and Karimnagar have shown better results.

According to officials, Telangana police are working to achieve the zero tolerance towards the menace of drugs to become “Nasha Mukt Telangana”. They said it would be important that the IOs be fully trained to investigate NDPS Act cases professionally and equipped with the latest developments and observations made by different courts during the hearing of bail petitions, trial of the cases and appeals.

After the formation of Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB), this aspect was given preference and around 20,000 officers from Police Department (SIs-SsP), Prohibition and Excise, and Prosecution departments are imparted training in the effective enforcement of NDPS Act.

Apart from conducting effective investigation of NDPS cases it is also important that samples to be sent to FSL have to be drawn as per the procedure and the trial of the cases are conducted effectively which will lead to the conviction of the case.

Noting the importance of this aspect, the court duty officers of Telangana are called to the main conference hall of ICCC in Banjara Hills and classes were conducted for them in batches to educate them of various procedures for drawing samples, opposing bails moved by the accused, especially in cases involving commercial quantities.
