300-Yr-Old Shiva Shrine Ready for Maha Shivaratri

The temple will open at 5 am on Wednesday and remain open throughout the night, with devotees continuing to visit even on the following day.

Hyderabad: With Maha Shivaratri falling on Thursday, temples across the city are adorned for the celebration. On this auspicious day, the devotees observe fasting and keep jagaran through the night, participating in bhajans and other devotional activities.

This year, as the Maha Kumbh Mela is underway, several devotees who attended the event have brought water from the Triveni Sangam to perform Abhishekam to Lord Shiva. At the well-known Lala Gudi in Pan Bazaar, Ranigunj, the 300-year-old Sri Kadeshwar Maha Temple is among those where devotees have informed priests of their plans to perform the ritual with the sacred water.

Radha Krishan Gondiker, the temple’s chief priest, said, “The Abhishekam will proceed as usual. Many devotees who visited the Maha Kumbh have returned with Triveni Sangam water and wish to use it for the ritual.”

Sharath Gondiker, assistant priest, added, “Thousands of devotees will gather as the Abhishekam begins in the morning and continues through the night. This temple is unique as it houses a Swayambhu (self-manifested) Shiva idol. The temple priests belong to the seventh generation of caretakers. There is also a Samadhi here, believed to be that of a Shiva devotee and Sadhu who took Jeeva Samadhi centuries ago.”

The temple will open at 5 am on Wednesday and remain open throughout the night, with devotees continuing to visit even on the following day.
