4-yr-old girl drowns in drainage in Armoor
NIZAMABAD: A four-year-old girl on Thursday drowned in a drain in Ramnagar Colony in Armoor municipality. The victim was identified as Matta Dhanashri. Playing at home, she came out and accidentally landed in the drain in front of her home.
There is no retaining wall or other protection for the drainage.
When they realised that she was missing, her parents searched for Dhanashri in the colony and later found her body in the drain. The drainage is a major storm water canal that also carries of sewage from Armoor town to Mallareddy cheruvu.
The body of the girl was retrieved from the drainage and shifted to a government hospital where doctors declared her dead.
S. Srinivas, a resident of Ramnagar Colony, said three children had fallen in the drainage, but were rescued by locals in time. In te rainy season, even adults face life threats from the drainage, he said. Municipal officials should take immediate steps to prevent further accidents, he urged.
Meanwhile, Armoor municipal deputy engineer Bhumesh visited the spot where the girl drowned. Locals argued with the municipal staff for alleged negligence in maintenance of drainages.
