Hyderabad:The Hyderabad traffic police said that they had booked 4,056 motorists for driving drunk from August 1 till Friday. Police filed 3,495 chargesheets in various courts, which were disposed of. Police said 300 drunk drivers were sentenced to imprisonment from one to 10 days and 32 directed to do social service for two days.
Police said they had secured the suspension of 19 driving licences for two to six months by the RTO based on the orders of the courts. The courts also imposed a fine of `76,43,700 on all the violators.
During a special drive on August 3 against drunk driving, 318 drunk drivers were caught and cases were booked against them under Section 185 of the MV Act. Sixty-five drunk drivers were sentenced and sent to jail on August 12 alone for a maximum period of seven days and the minimum being one day.
