46-day art exhibition fetes 50 artists
Governor distributes cash prizes to winners

Hyderabad: A 46-day art exhibition concluded on Thursday in Hyderabad, showcasing works by artists from several states — mostly from Telangana. Jointly organised by the Hyderabad Art Society, established in 1941, and the 84th All India Art Exhibition, the event celebrated the city’s rich artistic heritage.
At the closing ceremony, Governor Vishnu Dev Varma, an artist himself whose grandfather was a renowned painter, distributed prizes. Top honours went to Vijay Kishor, who received a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs,35,000, followed by Murlidhar Kuruk and artist Santoshini.
Prabha Shanker of the Treasure Exhibition Society highlighted the importance of the event, noting that the exhibition brought together stalwarts who have contributed to making Hyderabad a city of art.
"These events encourage artists by exposing them to diverse styles and perspectives, broadening their creative horizons," said a participant from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Fine Arts, whose work, "Human Belief on Cowrie," earned a prize of excellence.
Governor Varma commended the Hyderabad Art Society for organising the annual art exhibitions for the past 84 years. He recalled the society’s illustrious history, founded under the leadership of eminent figures such as Mehdi Nawaj Jung, Nawab Salar Jung Bahadur, and Khan Bahadur Syed Ahmed Yazdani, and lauded the contributions of later patrons including Biswanath Mukherjee, the late Jagdish Mittal, and Raja Triambak Raj.
Organisers reported that 250 artworks were submitted from across India, with 200 selected for display, and a total of 50 awards distributed during the exhibition.
