500 artists to perform at mega Christmas carnival at Kompally

Hyderabad: The New Life Assembly of God Church in Kompally is gearing up for what is being touted as India’s largest Christmas carnival this weekend. Taking place every alternate year, the mega Christmas production is set to run on Saturday and Sunday, featuring over 500 artists, singers, musicians, and technicians.

Spread across the church’s 11-acre campus, multiple themed theatres have been erected to stage a variety of plays highlighting the birth of Jesus Christ. While one area will feature dramatic reenactments of the Nativity story, the open-air sections will host live bands, a dedicated kids’ zone with free rides, and festive carols to celebrate the Christmas season.

The church, which has a congregation of over 7,000 members, anticipates attendees not only from various Christian denominations but also from other faiths.
“This is the first time anywhere in India we’re hosting a Christmas event at such a massive scale and production value,” said Pastor Younus Samuel, who spearheaded months of planning and rehearsals. “We’ve lined up 32 shows over the two evenings.”
Dr Uma Joseph, coordinator, explained: “We want to recreate the atmosphere of that very night Christ was born — angels descending, a star-filled sky. If you’ve ever wondered what that moment truly felt like, this is the perfect opportunity to experience a glimpse of that divine time which changed history forever.”
Visitors can also look forward to Christmas carols, games, competitions, and a variety of festive food options. One of the play directors, Rupa Prem, described her production: “We have a cast of about 20 and a crew of 10. Our play imagines a boardroom meeting in heaven, filled with humour and insightful dialogue. Each of the four theatres will host distinct shows, ensuring there is something for everyone.”
Coordinator Olive Dinakar recalled the drive-through events from 2020 and 2022: “Previously, we had a drive-through format where visitors could experience different scenes without leaving their cars. It was widely appreciated. This year’s approach is even more immersive and grand.”
