5,000 cusecs required for Himayathsagar to fill to brim: Ponnam
Hyderabad: The Himayathsagar reservoir will fill to the brim if 5,000 cusecs of water is received in the next few days. “One heavy rain is enough to reach the water levels in Himayathsagar reservoir to its full storage capacity in 10 hours,” said BC Welfare and Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar here on Tuesday.
He said this after inspecting the water levels in the reservoir along with Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district Collectors, Anudeep Durishetty and K. Shashanka, respectively. Since the IMD sounded a red alert across the State, the people should be extra cautious while venturing out, he said.
He asked the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district Collectors to take necessary preventive measures to avoid any inconvenience to people if the reservoir reaches the full storage capacity. Referring to the criticism of the Opposition parties especially BRS on rains, Prabhakar advised them this was not the time for making unnecessary criticism against the State government.
“We can indulge in politics during Assembly sessions or at the time of elections but not during the current flood situation, which caused damage to the people,” he said. At a time when the people are facing problems, a politician was making remarks using X from the US and another one sitting in the farmhouse.
“It is not advisable on the part of these leaders to make such criticism,” he said, stating that no one from the BRS consoled the family members of those who died in a major incident in Kondagattu claiming the lives of 69 people.
“You (BRS) have no humanity. “Before criticizing us, please do self retrospection,” he asked.
Prabhakar clarified that the deaths during floods were caused accidentally but not because of the negligence of the government. The State government has already announced Rs.5lakh ex-gratia to the family members of those who died in the floods.
He said the entire government machinery was working round-the-clock and monitoring the situation across the State and the preliminary estimates revealed that damage to the tune of Rs.5,000 crore was caused because of heavy rains in the State.
