60-km Widening Works to Put Scb on the Fast Track
Hyderabad: A total of 60 km of roads under the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), including SH-1 and NH-44, will be widened to end growing traffic woes.
Officials of the SCB and the state road development authority (TGRDA), at a recent meeting, decided to significantly transform the stretch from Bolaram to Bowenpally which is used by 2 lakh vehicles daily.
The SCB and the Telangana government have sanctioned an initial budget of Rs 5.4 crore for the works, which are planned for completion by 2026. The project will involve clearing various encroachments along the designated routes.
A special grievance cell has been set up to address the issues of residents and business owners.
The SCB's meeting on road widening comes in response to the increasing traffic congestion, particularly along the ECIL crossroads and Secunderabad routes.
The expansion of the National Highway-44 route is anticipated to play a key role in enhancing connectivity between the northern and southern regions of the city. Plans include the construction of elevated corridors at crucial junctions to mitigate congestion.
This comprehensive plan also includes the construction of service roads and footpaths to ensure safety and accessibility for pedestrians.
The board has proposed a series of public consultations to keep the stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the construction phase.
