6K govt schools shut down by BRS: Komatireddy

Suryapet: Minister for roads and buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday said 6,000 government schools were shut down in the state during the previous BRS regime.

He exuded confidence that the education sector would witness revolutionary changes with improvement in quality of education in state-run schools under the Congress government. All government schools would be developed into model schools by spending Rs 600 crore in a phased manner, he added.

Participating in Prof Jayashankar Badi Bata programme in Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) at Nuthankal, Venkat Reddy said the Congress government was committed to strengthening of government schools and `22,000 crore was allocated to education sector.

He announced the allotment of 10 computers to run to the Nuthankal ZPHS and `10 lakh for construction of toilets on its premises.

Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said earlier glory would be resorted to government schools by the state government by developing them on par with corporate schools. He asked the teachers to work with dedication to extend quality education to their students.

Earlier, the minister distributed textbooks and uniforms to the students. District collector S Venkat Rao and additional collector Ch Priyanka also attended the programme.
