70% road accidents avoidable if people follow rules: Komatireddy Venkat Reddy
Nalgonda: Minister for Roads and Buildings, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, stated on Sunday that 70% of road accidents could be prevented if drivers and pedestrians strictly adhered to road safety rules.
The minister inaugurated an eye check-up camp for drivers, organized by the police and district administration at Punjabi Dhaba in Vattimarthi, Chityal mandal. He highlighted that India records the highest number of road accidents globally, often caused by drivers with unaddressed vision problems due to financial constraints.
Appreciating District Collector Ila Thripati for the innovative initiative, Reddy directed officials to organize similar eye check-up camps in Kodad and Miryalaguda. He emphasized that drivers bear significant responsibility in reducing accidents and urged them to follow traffic rules, signals, and signage strictly.
Reddy also instructed police to implement corrective measures at accident-prone areas like Chityal and Narketpally on National Highway 65. He announced that the conversion of NH-65 into a six-lane highway would be completed within two years, improving safety and traffic flow.
Superintendent of police Sharat Chandra Pawar and Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham also attended the programme.
