8 family members fall sick after eating contaminated ‘Mandi’ biryani in Shadnagar
Hyderabad: Eight members of a family became sick after eating ‘Mandi’ biryani in a hotel at Shadnagar in erstwhile Mahbubnagar district.
N Narender, a resident of Appareddiguda in Shadnagar, along with seven of his family members, went to a restaurant to have dinner on the occasion of his marriage day. They ordered ‘Mandi’ biryani and ate. Minutes after returning home from the hotel, Narender, his wife Mangamma and six other family members, mainly children, developed vomiting.
Narender’s condition deteriorated after vomiting blood. His other family members rushed them to a private hospital in Shamshabad where they are recuperating. Doctors said they kept Narender under observation though his condition was stable.
Doctors said Narender’s family developed health problems only after eating contaminated food.
In spite of conducting surprise checks on eateries and bakeries, the management of several hotels continued to ignore the safety norms and served contaminated food to customers. In Khammam, the food inspectors seized marinated chicken pieces stored in the refrigerator and dumped them in a nala.
