8 injured after lift in Kinara Grand Hotel in Nagole collapsed
Hyderabad: A celebration nearly turned into a tragedy when a lift carrying eight persons plunged from the fourth floor to the cellar of Kinara Grand Hotel at Alkapuri crossroads.
All eight occupants of the lift suffered fractures and bleeding injuries and were taken to a hospital in LB Nagar for treatment. The lift had a capacity of 12 people.
The injured were leaving after attending an engagement ceremony in the hotel when the incident occurred.
Witness said that the collapse of the lift was accompanied by a loud noise and cries for help from the injured. The staff and visitors broke open the lift doors and extricated the injured.
Six of the injured were identified as Veerabrahmama, Ravi Shanker Reddy, Manikanta Gupta, Manohar, Shajeed Baba and Kalyan Kumar
Nagole police on Monday booked a case against Kinara Grand Hotel at Alkapuri. The police said the lift fell down due to improper maintenance. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case against the hotel and investigations are on.
The victims' families accused Kinara Grand of gross negligence and said that the management was not concerned about the situation. “They installed a lift that was manufactured locally. We request the police to close the hotel,” a family member said.
