Abide by FMGL Norms for Getting Overseas Degrees, Medicos Cautioned
Hyderabad:The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an alert for students trying to seek admission to medical colleges abroad for undergraduate courses that do not comply with guidelines as laid down in Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) Regulations, 2021. The medical body, under the ambit of the Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), has warned that despite alerts and advisories, those who continue to apply in such colleges abroad will not be allowed to register in India.
The alert released on Wednesday stated that they had published Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 in the official gazette of India on 18.11.2021. It clearly prescribed the terms of duration of the study, medium of instructions, syllabus, clinical training, internship and clerkship. These conditions are mandatory for registration to practice allopathy in India.
Students desirous of obtaining an overseas medical qualification and thereafter practice allopathy in India have been advised by NMC to ensure that all conditions prescribed in FMGL are fulfilled before taking admission. Any sort of variation could lead to disqualification in grant of registration in India, it said.
