Acute water shortage hits people in tribal areas
People of Saleguda, Boddiguda and Chilatiguda villages of Indravelli mandals, Erravhekluka and Kolamguda of Utnoor mandal and Gottipatar of Narnoor mandal are facing acute drinking water problems

Adilabad: It is early summer, but people in tribal areas have already started trekking long distances daily to fetch drinking water. In Adilabad, temperatures hovered over 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Kumra Nagorao of Dodanda village in Narnoor mandal said people were facing drinking water problems and going long distances to collect water from borewells which are on the verge of drying up due to falling groundwater tables.
Many borewells are not functioning while some are defunct. The need of the hour is to expeditiously repair them so that people meet the drinking water demands in villages. Women are spending long hours waiting for their turn at borewells and streams.
He said villagers collect water from agriculture wells as there is erratic water supply under Mission Bhagiratha.
People of Saleguda, Boddiguda and Chilatiguda villages of Indravelli mandals, Erravhekluka and Kolamguda of Utnoor mandal and Gottipatar of Narnoor mandal are facing acute drinking water problems.
Mesram Chithru of Sungapur of Narnoor mandal lamented that there was no end in sight to their water problems and appealed to officials to supply drinking water in tankers to meet the demand.
PVTG Kolams of New Somvarpet village in Gudihathnoor mandal collected water from a stream at a far off place and to make matters worse for them there is no road connectivity.
Sidam Devrao of New Somvarpet village said water in stream and rivulets will dry up soon and the situation will get worse for them. Kolam women travel long distances to fetch water while men bring water in plastic drums on bullock carts, he added.
