Addl collectors tasked with ensuring quality and infra support in govt education institutions

Hyderabad:To enhance the quality of education and infrastructure across Telangana, the state government has issued directives empowering additional collectors (local bodies) with comprehensive supervisory roles over residential schools, gurukulams, KGBVs and hostels. This is intended to ensure rigorous monitoring, effective management and the well-being of students in these institutions.

The government has detailed specific responsibilities to the additional collectors, including monitoring compliance with government guidelines, maintaining infrastructure and ensuring high academic standards. They are also to chair the district purchase committees, responsible for procuring food supplies and ensuring adherence to a common diet menu. Regular checks on the quality, quantity, and timely delivery of meals will be conducted during inspections and fortnightly night stays at hostels, the order states.

The directive also stresses inspections and interaction with students, staff and teachers to address ground-level challenges. Remote and underserved areas are to receive special attention, ensuring equitable education and welfare measures.

Submission of monthly progress reports to the respective district collectors and relevant departments is mandatory. Regular review meetings will focus on actionable points and evolving a systematic approach to improve institutional performance.

Meanwhile, chief secretary A. Santhi Kumari directed various departments to extend full cooperation to ensure the initiative’s success.
