Adivasi bandh total, incident-free

Adilabad: The statewide bandh on Saturday called by the Adivasi outfits was total in agency areas while it was partially successful in towns of the erstwhile Adilabad amid tight police security.

The Adivasis demanded strong action against the accused auto diver, Sheik Maqdhum, who allegedly attempted to rape an Adivasi woman and physically attacked her in Jainoor in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. .

The Adivasis alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma did not respond to the heinous incident and demanded the state government to give the victim full security.

RTC buses were stranded in bus depots and were not allowed to come onto the roads. Later, RTC bus services operated as usual. Business establishment and educational institutions remained closed.

In the towns, shops and business establishments were open in the afternoon. Adilabad chamber of commerce extended their support to the bandh. Business establishments remained closed in Utnoor. Leaders of Adivasi Sena, members of the Rai Centres and community leaders enforced the bandh in many places.
