Adivasis Donate Cow, Calf to Baby who Lost Mother
Adilabad: Members of the Adivasi community donated a cow and calf, named Avu and Legaduda, to support a newborn baby after her mother, Kanaka Jangu Bai, aged 25 died. The donation took place in Gubbe village, Ichoda mandal, Adilabad district, following Jangu Bai’s death on December 3.
Jangu Bai succumbed to health complications 10 days after delivering her baby girl at RIMS, Adilabad. With no mother to care for her, the newborn is now under the guardianship of her father and grandmother. Recognising the need for nourishment, the Adivasi community stepped in to ensure the baby’s well-being.
The cow offers approximately three litres of milk per day.
Led by community leader Mesram Shekar Babu, a group of Adivasi youth and elders made the donation. The cow and calf were valued at Rs.25,000 and were purchased from the local market. Additionally, the community contributed Rs.30,000 in cash for the newborn. “The Rs.25,000 cash, along with the total donated amount, will be deposited under the Sukanya Yojana scheme in the newborn’s name,” Shekar Babu told Deccan Chronicle.
This act of kindness underscores the Adivasi community’s dedication to supporting one of their own in a time of profound loss. By providing essential resources and financial support, they have ensured that the newborn will have a healthier start in life despite the tragic circumstances surrounding her birth.
The community’s efforts highlight the importance of collective responsibility and compassion, setting a poignant example of how traditional support systems can make a significant difference in individual lives. As the newborn grows, the continued support from her family and community will be crucial in fostering her development and ensuring a promising future.
