Adivasis Elated After CM Revanth Promises to Meet Them Every 4 Months
Adilabad: Adivasis from former Adilabad district expressed their joy and relief following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's pledge to meet with Adivasi community leaders every four months to address their issues and develop empowerment strategies.
Two days ago, Adivasi representatives held a groundbreaking two-hour meeting with Chief Minister Reddy, marking the first such engagement of its kind. The Mesram clan of Adivasis invited the Chief Minister to participate in the traditional darbhar ceremony of the Nagoba Jatara.
In addition to the Chief Minister’s commitment, rural development minister Seethakka assured attendance at the goddess Jangu Bai’s Mahapuja during the Pournami festival on January 13 at Kota-Parandholi Bidwar in Kerameri mandal, Komaram Bheem district. Purka Bapurao, a member of the Jangu Bai temple committee, announced plans for a special event at the temple, which will host community leaders from neighbouring Maharashtra and Telangana.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister outlined the state government's initiatives focused on improving education and healthcare for Adivasis. He also announced the allocation of funds for the development of Adivasi religious sites.
Mesram Venkat Rao, the Peetadhipati of Nagoba Temple, was happy with the Chief Minister’s dedication. “Chief Minister Reddy promised to attend the traditional darbhar of Nagoba Jatara on January 31. It is heartening to see a Chief Minister take the time to discuss our issues in depth and commit to regular meetings,” he said.
Political analysts are now speculating that the Chief Minister may initiate the Congress’ campaign for local body elections from Adilabad, leveraging the positive sentiment among the Adivasi communities. Party insiders revealed that the Congress previously held a public meeting of the Dalitha Girijana Dandora in Indravelli under then TPCC president’s leadership. Despite winning only one MLA seat out of seven in the Adilabad Parliament Constituency and losing the MP seat in recent elections, the party remains determined.
To strengthen their foothold in tribal areas, the Congress is intensifying efforts to win sarpanch, MPTC, and ZPTC positions in regions with significant Adivasi populations across the erstwhile Adilabad, Warangal, Khammam, and Karimnagar districts. Additionally, the party organised a training camp for tribal leaders at Nagarjunasagar aimed at developing leadership skills and raising awareness about constitutional rights and their protection.
