Adilabad: Adivasis want Lambadas out of ST list

Adilabad: Hundreds of Adivasis from across the former Adilabad region gathered at the Indravelli Martyrs Memorial on Monday to participate in the ‘Adivasi Asthitva Poru Garjana’ organised by Thudum Debba.

During the Poru Garjana, leaders demanded that the state and Central governments remove the Lambadas from the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list, asserting that their continued classification violates Article 342 of the Indian Constitution. They also called on the state government to relocate minorities who migrated to Jainoor mandal headquarters after 1970.
Additional demands included 100 per cent reservations for Adivasis in local body elections within agency areas and the recognition of Adivasi gudems in non-agency areas as agency villages. The Adivasis warned that they would intensify their agitation if the state government failed to address their issues and demands by April 10.
Prominent speakers included Thudum Debba leaders Bursa Pochaiah, Godam Ganesh, Kotnak Vijay, Arun Kumar, Purka Bapurao, Kodapa Nagesh, Anaka Devender, Renuka, Pushparani, and Adivasi Rai centres leaders Mesram Durgu, Venkat Rao Patel, Sidma Bheem Rao, and Kammu. They emphasised the importance of their demands for social recognition and equitable treatment, urging the government to take immediate action to resolve their grievances.
