Advocate (Protection) Act in the offing: Telangana HC Chief Justice
Hyderabad: Chief Justice Alok Aradhe of the Telangana High Court Justice on Thursday assured the advocates community that their desire for an Advocate (Protection) Act would soon see the light of the day.
Speaking after hoisting the National Flag, Justice Aradhe said that the High Court had recommended to the government to bring in the Act, especially considering the recent attacks on advocates and threats to them. He said that the state government had replied positively.
He pointed out that works pertaining to the construction of a new High Court building at Rajendranagar would commence shortly. He said that the state government has made budgetary allocations.
The Chief Justice asked senior advocates to take some time to handle cases pro bono and train new entrants.
He said that the issue of installing the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, chief architect of the Constitution, had taken up with the state government and hoped that the same would be resolved soon.
Later, the Chief Justice presented Pratibha awards to children of the High Court staff for their academic excellence. These awards are being sponsored by the court’s retired employee J.C. Virupaksha Reddy for the last 27 tears.
High Court Judges and senior advocates, Bar Council chairman A. Narasimha Reddy, High Court Bar Association president A. Ravindhar Reddy, Advocate General A. Sudharshan Reddy and public prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao, advocates and court staff participated in the event.
