Afzalgunj firing: Robbers spotted in Chennai

Hyderabad: Armed robbers involved in Afzalgunj firing on January 16 and loot of Rs 93 lakh from an ATM in Shivaji Chowk Bidar headed towards Chennai after the crimes, police commissioner C. V. Anand said.

Initially, our special teams headed to north eastern states but after thoroughly examining the CCTV footage, we captured them moving towards Miyapur, Kukatpally and Tirupati and then to Chennai by bus, said the police commissioner.

The gang was wanted by UP Police for past 18 months. A reward of Rs 4 lakh was announced on each of them, the city police confirmed.

“Our SIT teams are coordinating with the police of four states. Very soon we will get them. Such criminal activities in Hyderabad city will not be tolerated at any cost,” the police commissioner said.

The robbers belong to Hajipur in Bihar, our teams confirmed. They are professional criminals familiar with police strategies, Anand said.

“We are aware that they are watching our movements through news channels. This is not the time to disclose their whereabouts. They can change their plans and hideouts. Our teams are constantly chasing them. Very soon they will be arrested,” Anand added.
