Hyderabad:Telangana Assembly speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Wednesday said agriculture is a top priority for the state government.
Addressing students at the Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTSAU), he listed various initiatives, including loan waivers, rythu bharosa, rythu bima, and free electricity which the government has implemented to support farmers. The government allocates around Rs 50,000 crore annually to agriculture, he said.
Gaddam also congratulated the university on obtaining a geographical indication (GI) tag for Tandur red gram which has gained international recognition.
He expressed hope that the university would continue to thrive under Professor Aladas Janaiah’s leadership as VC for the betterment of farmers in the state. He assured support in protecting the university's land and assets and promised to address issues related to funding, recruitments and teaching and non-teaching staff problems.
Prof. Janaiah highlighted the university's progress in teaching, research, and extension, welfare of the students and staff of the university. He emphasised the importance of retrieving encroached properties. Students and staff members requested increased funding, appointments, and infrastructure development, including new hostels and health cards.
T. Prakash Goud, MLA, Rajendra Nagar also spoke on the occasion. A large number of students, teaching and non teaching staff attended the programme.
