Agriculture Department Orders Crop Damage Assessment

Hyderabad:The agriculture department has instructed district agriculture officers to start enumeration of damage to the standing crops due to the recent rain, and submit a report within a week where the damage was more than 33 per cent.

Officials are to assess the loss of horticulture and agriculture crops as well as farm land that has suffered sand casting and scouring. The norms followed so far make fields with more than 33 percent damage eligible for compensation.

The district agriculture officers are to visit five per cent of the enumerated fields in each mandal, preferably the five worst-affected.

The note does not make any specific instruction on identification of tenant farmers. In the absence of a crop insurance scheme, farmers are likely to receive a blanket amount of ₹10,000 per acre only if the damage is beyond 33 per cent.
