AI solves perils of inefficient urban planning

Hyderabad: If artificial intelligence can perform any task, why not urban planning? This thought to led to an AI-powered proposal on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s prestigious Musi Riverfront Development project, which was unveiled at the Global AI Summit 2024 on Thursday.

The project aims to integrate drone-based waste monitoring and removal systems, AI-driven urban planning, and advanced water quality monitoring into the government’s existing plan for the riverfront development. The government is planning on consolidating AI-powered risk assessment and flood mitigation strategies into the government’s action plan will ensure the safety and sustainability of the project.

The exhibition featured over 100 stalls from companies and start-ups, all presenting products and services that use AI.

A standout exhibit was hosted by the government of India’s Geological Survey of India (GSI), which exhibited an AI model designed to predict resource-rich locations for mineral exploration by using the vast database collected over several years of surveys.

The GSI is organising a hackathon, encouraging participants to process the datasets and identify potential mining sites, opening new avenues for resource exploration, said a representative.

Another eye-catching exhibit featured an AI-based software capable of detecting crashes and fire incidents on highways and expressways. This tool can alert local control centres and emergency services in real-time, ensuring a swift response. The exhibit also featured a multi-camera tracking, behavioural analysis through video and other security-enhancing aspects.

In the realm of public safety, a start-up introduced an AI product designed to predict crime patterns based on historical data. By analysing geo-mapped police records, the algorithm aims to identify areas at higher risk of criminal activity.

From healthcare to education, marketing to home appliances, the Global AI Summit 2024 showcased a wide array of AI-driven innovations, solidifying Hyderabad’s role as a robust hub for artificial intelligence and technology.
