AIS Officers to Spend Nights at Girls’ Welfare Schools in Telangana

Hyderabad: In an initiative to improve the quality of education in the girls' residential schools, the Telangana government has mandated monthly visits and overnight stays by women AIS (All India Service) officers. The directive, issued on January 1, aims to foster direct engagement with students, and staff and address gaps in infrastructure, academics and overall functioning of these welfare schools.

As part of the initiative, the women AIS officers will spend a night at the schools, allowing them to interact with students and assess the institutions comprehensively. During these visits, the officers will review academic standards, infrastructural adequacy and welfare measures. Then, they would submit detailed reports within seven days. Reports must highlight observations, actionable recommendations and urgent concerns.

The principal secretary of the SC welfare department has been designated as the nodal officer for coordinating these visits and ensuring equitable coverage of all the girls' residential schools. Reports compiled by the AIS officers will feed into a quarterly progress report, enabling systematic follow-ups by the general administration department.
