Adilabad: The state government is converting the Anganwadi centres into pre-schools with English medium facility across the state. The centres would be functional from July 1.
Nearly 200 Anganwadi centres are being converted into pre-schools. These will be run in single buildings in the premises of government primary schools in the Adilabad district.
The state government is also introducing a dress code for preschool students -- grey colour shirt and maroon colour nicker for boys; and grey colour frock for girls. Self-help group members are stitching the dresses.
A revised curriculum will be taught to the students at these pre-schools across 18 mandals and five ICDS projects in Adilabad district.
The existing Anganwadi centres are being converted into modern pre-schools and nurseries. UKG and LKG lessons will be taught to children between ages 3-6 and uniforms and books will be given to students at these pre-schools. Some 8029 students will get education at pre-schools this year.
Minister for women and child welfare, Seethakka, said the state government is introducing English medium in Anganwadis and converting them into pre-primary education centres across the state.
She said training was given to Anganwadi teachers at all levels by the Women and Child Welfare department. Children aged between 6 and 14 years should be studying in these schools.
Seethakka said children aged two and a half years would be admitted to the Nursery, 3-4-year-old students to LKG and 4-5-year-old to UKG in the Anganwadis.
Textbooks, uniforms and feeding would be arranged for the children at the Anganwadis in villages. These Anganwadis would be considered as pre-primary education centres close to 15,000 primary schools in the state.
There are a total of 1256 Anganwadi centres and pre-school education will be taught there. Nearly 8,029 children will get the benefit of preschool coaching at Anganwadi centres in the Adilabad district.
Master trainers from Hyderabad are now giving training to the Anganwadi workers in vari9ous districts.
Adilabad distict ICDS project director, M Sabitha, told Deccan Chronicle that they would start pre-school Anganwadi centres in the premises of nearly 200 government primary schools in Adilabad district. Other Anganwadis are being run in rented houses and independent buildings.
She said the medium of instruction will be English at pre-primary schools since parents are showing an interest in this. But, the trained Anganwadi teachers will teach the students in both Telugu and English.
Sabitha said training was going on for the Anganwadi teachers. School uniforms will be given to the students at Anganwadi buildings on the premises of government primary schools and this facility would be extended later to other Anganwadis.
