Hyderabad: The stage is all set for the commencement of the state festival 'Bonalu', which will take off at the traditional starting point in Golconda on July 7. Celebrated on a colourful note, including at Hyderabad (July 28 and 29) and Lashkar (Secunderabad), the festivities got a shot in the arm following the formation of Telangana State and the government releasing funds for refurbishing temples in most of the localities.
Incidentally, this will be the first Bonalu for the Congress government after the formation of Telangana. The government is taking all the necessary steps to make it a grand event.
At a recent meeting of concerned departments, endowment minister Konda Surekha instructed the officials to ensure a grand celebration.
It takes around one month to paint and repair one temple. Efforts are on to accomplish the task in time.
Thanks to the active involvement of the cultural department, and its promotion of artisans, Bonalu is the time when traditional art forms, which are unique to the state, get a welcome boost.
