Assembly session, celebrations lead to traffic jams in city

Hyderabad: Hyderabad witnessed heavy traffic congestion on Monday as the Legislative Assembly session commenced, and the Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu celebrations near Tank Bund drew large crowds. The situation caused delays throughout the day, with the city’s traffic police deputing additional personnel to manage the traffic jams.

A traffic constable, stationed at Tank Bund, said, “The crowds were much larger than what we expected. We are doing our best to ensure smooth movement, but it’s a challenge with so many people and vehicles in one area.”

“Additional forces are on their way, and we will clear up the jams as soon as possible”, the constable added.

Commuters faced significant delays, particularly in areas surrounding Assembly, Ravindra Bharathi, Liberty, Himayatnagar, Birla Mandir, Khairatabad and Irrum Manzil Colony. During the Assembly session, the route leading from Basheerbagh to Assembly via LB Stadium and route from Nampally towards Public Garden were closed, leading to severe congestion in the areas.

During the celebrations at the Secretariat, the Tank Bund stretch was closed. Public met with road closures towards the Khairatabad flyover, Necklace Road, NTR Gardens, Lower Tank Bund and Buddha Bhavan.

Due to the road closures and excited crowds leading towards the Secretariat, severe traffic jams were seen on roads in the surrounding areas. Himayatnagar, Lower Tank Bund, Musheerabad, Birla Mandir, RTC crossroads, Ranigunj and other areas saw bumper-to-bumper traffic for long distances.

In response, the traffic police deployed extra staff at critical junctions. Barricades were set up, and vehicles were diverted to alternative routes to ease the congestion. Despite these efforts, long delays frustrated motorists.
