Bandi demands CBI probe into phone-tapping case

Hyderabad: Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday demanded that the State government order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the sensational phone-tapping case in the State.

In a letter to the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Sanjay said the case must be handed over to CBI given its severity and in view the constitutional and democratic violations committed by those involved in it. “The Chief Minister must write a letter to the CBI requesting to probe the case keeping in view the interests of the State. This move will reflect the Chief Minister’s commitment to ensure a fair probe into the case,” he said.

At the same time, the Congress government must take necessary steps to withdraw an order issued by the previous BRS government restricting the entry of CBI into the State. As former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) and his son KT Rama Rao (KTR) carried out a cyber attack on Opposition parties through phone-tapping when the BRS was in power, the investigating agencies must issue a notice to them and enquire their role in the case.

The credibility of the State government would have increased if the State enforcement agencies probed the role of KCR and KTR. Several people were discussing that an effort is being made to protect KCR and his family from the case, Sanjay said.

He urged Revanth Reddy to write a letter to the Assembly Speaker to disqualify KCR and KTR as MLAs for allegedly committing a serious offence by tapping phones of Opposition leaders, politicians and other influential people in the State.
