BC organisations seek reservations in local bodies
Nizamabad: Leaders of Backward Classes (BC) communities and minorities submitted memorandums to the BC dedication commission here on Thursday urging reservations in local bodies.
Commission chairman Busani Venkateshwar Rao, member B. Saidulu conducted a meeting at district office’s integrated complex. District collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu welcomed the BC dedication commission.
Leaders of Nayi Brahmin, Vishwa Brahmin, BC welfare association , Mudiraj, Medari, Pusala, Vaddera, Kummari, Yadav, Rajaka, Veerabhadra, Nakashi, Valmiki, Mera, Gandla Telikula, Gundla, Muslim minority, Dudekula, Baghban and other cooperative societies submitted memorandums on their social, financial and political backwardness.
They urged the commission chairman Busani Venkateshwar Rao that reservations should be provided to BC communities as per their population proportion. Many BC communities did not have opportunities in local bodies, they lamented. Nayi Brahmins said that corporate companies became a threat to their profession and it should be prevented. Pusala caste leaders sought inclusion in the Most Backward Classes category.
On the lines of other states, the Medari community should be included in the Scheduled Tribe category, they said. As per the population ratio, 12.5 per cent reservations should be provided in local bodies, Muslim leaders said.
BC dedication commission chairman Busani Venkateshwar Rao said that opinions were received in eight undivided districts so far. After completion of the old Adilabad, Karimnagar public hearings, a report will be submitted to the government, he said.
