Begumpet airport gets hoax bomb threat on email

Hyderabad: An email sent by an unidentified person stating that a bomb was planted at the Begumpet airport and it would explode any time turned out to be a hoax after a thorough checking of the premises by the bomb disposal (BD) squad here on Monday.

The airport officials received the email in which it was stated that a bomb was planted at the airport and it would explode any time.

The airport officials then alerted the police at 11 am, who pressed into service the BD squad of the City Security Wing (CSW). The personnel of BD squad searched the premises for more than an hour and confirmed that it was a hoax call.

On seeing the BD squad, the private security personnel deployed at the airport and the staff was on tenterhooks. When the BD squad confirmed that no explosives were found, the staff heaved a sigh of relief as several VIPs, Ministers and top industrialists would travel from Begumpet on chartered flights and helicopters.

The Begumpet airport is also being used for training purposes apart from attending to emergency duty to shift relief material to affected areas in case of natural calamities.
