BIE Revises Inter-I Exam Pattern, Sciences Stay Unchanged Students to Answer Fewer Questions

The students have been given major relief as they now have to answer only two out of three long answers compared to five out of seven questions earlier

Hyderabad: The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has revised the first-year Intermediate examination pattern from 2026-27 to reduce the learning burden and promote conceptual understanding. The theory exam pattern, officials said, is revised for all subjects except physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology.

As per the model questions papers, included in the newly revised textbooks, mathematics 1A and 1B will be conducted for a total of 60 marks instead of 75 marks, with changes in the short and long answer sections. It kept the 10 compulsory very short answer questions of two marks the same in section A. However, in section B, students will have to answer six short answers, instead of five earlier.

The students have been given major relief as they now have to answer only two out of three long answers compared to five out of seven questions earlier.

Academic burden has also been reduced for the CEC stream, as each subject exam will be conducted for 80 marks instead of 100 marks. For commerce Part-1 and Part-2, students need to answer two out of three questions of six marks in section A.

In section B, the board reduced the marks five to four and students will continue to answer four out of six questions. In section C, six out of nine questions of two marks have to be answered, compared to five out of eight questions earlier.

For the accountancy part-2, the number of questions in section D remained the same, but the marks have been reduced from 20 to 12. In Section E, students have to answer three out of five questions worth six marks, instead of one out of two questions worth 10 marks each. Similarly, in Section F, two five-mark questions are replaced with five two-mark questions.

The question paper pattern for economics, civics and history has also been revised. Long answer questions in section A will now carry eight marks instead of 10, while questions in section B will carry four marks instead of five. The total number of questions is also reduced from 20 to 16, and students should answer 12 instead of 15 questions in section C.
