Bhongir: The first confirmed case of bird flu in Telangana has been reported in Nelapatla village, Choutuppal mandal, after test results from a Bhopal laboratory confirmed the presence of the virus. The outbreak was detected following the death of around 1,000 chickens at a poultry farm 64 km from Hyderabad.
Officials from the animal husbandry department collected samples from the deceased poultry and received confirmation of avian influenza on Saturday.
Following the report, district veterinary and animal husbandry officer V. Krishna, along with his team, visited the farm and carried out sanitisation measures to contain the spread.
Krishna stated that five poultry farms are located within a one-kilometre radius of the affected farm, and samples from these farms will be sent for testing. Additionally, poultry farms within a 10-km radius of Nelapatla will be closely monitored.
In a separate incident, 7,000 chickens died at a poultry farm owned by Bantu Mahesh in Cherukupally, Kattangur mandal, Nalgonda district. Veterinary officials collected samples from the site and safely disposed of the dead birds at an isolated location.
