BITS Pilani Partners with Premier Energies for Solar Energy Research
Hyderabad: Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS), Pilani, said it had signed an agreement with Premier Energies Ltd to collaborate on solar energy research and development.
Premier Energies, one of India’s leading manufacturers of solar cells and modules, has an annual production capacity of 2 GW for solar cells and 4 GW for solar modules. The company’s plans to expand to 5 GW. The agreement with BITS Pilani aims to develop innovative technologies and address critical gaps in the renewable energy landscape.
The partnership will focus on joint research projects, allowing students and researchers to work on real-world industry problems. It will also help Premier Energies improve its manufacturing processes and create advanced products that meet market demands.
Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, emphasised the significance of such collaborations, stating, “When academia and industry work together, we can drive meaningful innovation and create solutions that benefit society and the economy.”
The Centre for Research Excellence in Semiconductor Technologies (CREST) at BITS Pilani has been instrumental in facilitating this agreement.
Surender Pal Singh Saluja, chairman of Premier Energies, said: “For students and researchers, it’s a chance to solve real-world problems and gain industry-relevant skills. For us, the academic input will improve our processes and help us develop more efficient products.”
