BJP Blames BRS, Congress for Decline in Telangana Education
Hyderabad: Union coal and mines minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday alleged that the “criminal negligence” of education by successive governments led by the BRS and the Congress was the reason for the poor ranking higher educational institutions in Telangana, as revealed by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) report revealed on Monday.
The ranking of over Osmania University was consistently falling from 46th place in 2022 to 70th rank this year. None of the higher education colleges ranked among the top 100 nationally. On the other hand, the institutes of higher learning run by the Centre in the state had been performing well and this showed where the problem lay, Kishan Reddy claimed.
Stating that 2,400 posts in the universities are vacant, Kishan Reddy said there were 848 vacancies out of 1,268 posts in Osmania University and 293 out of 404 in Kakatiya University. The university staff were not getting salaries in time. The funds for research and development had been reduced.
Like the BRS, the Congress government is also not appointing Vice Chancellors to universities. The government had not yet cleared Rs 7,519 crore as fee reimbursement and scholarship dues to the students, pending for the last four years.
Out of 30,014 government schools in the state, Kishan Reddy said, about 5,000 did not having drinking water facility. The toilets were not found for girls in 14,028 schools.
Claiming that 24,000 teacher posts are vacant, Kishan Reddy said that 6,800 government schools were running with a single teacher. While government schools have 29 lakh students, only 10,000 private schools have over 30 lakh students. This reflected how the parents, despite the burden of fees, were preferring private schools.
He said the Congress government had forgotten about the Youth Declaration, recruitment for two lakh jobs, payment of `4,000 unemployment allowance and fee reimbursement, Kishan Reddy demanded that the government take up recruitment teachers and release scholarship and fee reimbursement dues.
