BJP has demanded a judicial probe into the awarding of the tunnel boring contract for the Srisailam left bank canal (SLBC) to Jaiprakash Associates Ltd, alleging that Congress leaders received crores of rupees in kickbacks and inflated the project cost.

The party has also called for an investigation into what it termed as “murder politics” by BRS leaders.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, BJP vice president and former MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar accused two Congress ministers from the district of actively pushing for the contract to be awarded to the same agency after a long gap, despite expert warnings about the risks of tunnelling in the fragile terrain.
He further alleged that Congress leaders pressured Jaiprakash Associates to offer sub-contracts for the SLBC project. The work, which had been stalled for eight months, resumed only after the Congress came to power.
Prabhakar stated that the SLBC accident had raised serious concerns about the project, which was intended to provide drinking water to Nalgonda district. He pointed out that although the project was launched in 2004 under former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, it has seen little progress in two decades while its cost has skyrocketed.
