BJP gears up for MLC polls

Hyderabad:Union minister and BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy convened a meeting of election coordinators at the BJP state office on Monday, ahead of the upcoming MLC elections. He said that the party must seize the first-mover advantage by taking the lead in the campaign.

The BJP is optimistic about repeating its strong performance from the parliamentary elections, in which it won eight out of 17 MP seats. Party insiders believe the BJP has an edge, as Congress has not yet announced its candidates, and it remains unclear whether BRS will even contest. The party directed its cadre to focus on connecting with every voter in the two teacher council seats and the one graduate constituency.

With the voter enrolment window open, the BJP plans to launch a drive to enlist new voters. The notification for the MLC elections is expected in the second or third week of February, and the elections are likely to be scheduled for the first or second week of March.

The party is confident in its prospects, particularly in the two teacher constituencies, which cover Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Medak districts in North Telangana. These districts were strongholds for the BJP in the parliamentary elections, where the party won all four MP seats and seven out of eight MLA seats. The third graduate MLC seat is from the Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts.

The meeting was attended by several key BJP leaders, including Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay, Rajya Sabha member and BJP OBC Morcha national president Dr K. Laxman, BJP Legislative Council head A.V.N. Reddy, state general secretaries G. Premendar Reddy and Kasam Venkateshwarlu, BJP state vice-president Manohar Reddy, BJP national executive member Garikapati Mohan Rao and Tamil Nadu and Karnataka incharge Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy. BJP MLAs Payal Shankar and Rama Rao Patel were also present.
