BJP Warns Congress Against Demolitions
Hyderabad: BJP MP Etala Rajendar slammed revenue and GHMC officials for unlawfully demolishing houses in Peerzadiguda near Uppal on Monday morning, claiming that all the houses had requisite permissions from departments concerned.
The Malkajgiri MP said the Congress government would meet the same fate as the BRS, which was similarly behind the demolition of houses in Ayyappa Society.
Addressing a press conference at the state BJP office here, Rajendar alleged local Congress leaders had influenced the local officials to tear down the houses in Peerzadiguda, which belonged to persons from the lower-middle class, due to political rivalry.
The demolished houses were part of Sai Priya Enclave and Sai Aishwarya Enclave, among other housing societies, in a 350-acre piece of land.
Rajendar said most of the house owners had purchased plots about 40 years ago but officials demolished them, saying the land belonged to the Wakf Board.
"House owners had all permissions, including from the GHMC and the HMDA, and even got bank loans while constructing them. But the authorities, under the influence of some local Congress leaders, have carried out the demolitions in the early hours on Monday," Rajendar pointed out.
Rajendar said the local corporator had declined to join the Congress. To put the corporator under pressure, houses of innocents were demolished, he said.
Rajendar demanded a detailed inquiry into the demolition drive and cautioned officials that they must follow their duty and not fall prey to political pressures.
