BRS Demands Immediate Repairs to Medigadda
Hyderabad: The BRS on Wednesday demanded that the state government conduct an immediate review of the situation at the barrages of Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla and take up repairs at the barrages on war footing.
Addressing a press conference, senior BRS leader B. Vinod Kumar alleged that the government was employing delaying tactics claiming that it
was waiting for a report from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) to take any further decisions or repairs to the three barrages of Kaleshwaram project. “The fact is, nowhere in the Dam Safety Act of 2021 is it mentioned that repairs should not be done without NDSA reports. The NDSA is only an advisory body and the state government has full authority to take up the repairs,” Vinod Kumar explained.
The former vice-chairman of the state planning board said the Medigadda barrage withstood the flood season with thousands of TMCs of water flowing through it and even the recent 5.3 magnitude earthquake could not damage it.
“Other than blaming KCR for what happened at Medigadda, there appears to be no other reason not to take up repairs. If any mistakes were made – as such things can happen in a large project - identify those responsible and take action. Inquiry commissions and other probes are just a waste of time. The government must start repairs and ensure the barrages can be used next year instead of letting water go through them,” he said.
