BRS gears up for battle with govt over Rythu Bharosa
Hyderabad:The BRS on Friday accused the Congress government of attempting to dilute the Rythu Bharosa scheme, and charged the ruling party with “turning farmers into beggars” by seeking applications and undertakings for availing the scheme.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said that party will not allow the government to escape from its promise of extending Rythu Bharosa to all farmers, including tenant farmers, as promised by the Congress before the Assembly elections.
Rama Rao, addressing a press conference, said the reports that the government will ask for undertakings are designed to create fear among farmers that cases will be filed against them. “We demand that the Cabinet meeting on Saturday declare that Rythu Bharosa will be implemented for all farmers unconditionally,” Rama Rao said.
He called on all BRS leaders and workers to educate farmers on the government's plans. He said the BRS government had paid farmers `73,000 crore over 11 seasons under Rythu Bandhu. “Now the Congress government is claiming Rs 22,000 crore were given to ineligible people and using this as an excuse to whittle down the scheme,” he said.
Elsewhere, BRS MLC K Kavitha demanded 42 per cent reservations for BC communities as promised by the Congress. During a protest by Telangana Jagruthi near Indira Park here, she , demanded that the ruling party honour its ‘Kamareddy Declaration’ to implement these reservations in local body polls.
