BRS rejected Centre’s housing scheme for Telangana, says Union minister
Minister says BRS-led state government returned money allocated to it unspent

Hyderabad: Union minister of state for rural development Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani informed the Lok Sabha that the Central government had not allocated any money for Telangana under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) for the last three years, as the then BRS-led state government had returned Rs 190.79 crore, which it allocated in the financial year 2016-17.
Answering a query by Congress MP from Khammam Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the minister said that the state was allocated a target of 70,674 houses for the financial years 2016-17 and 2017-18 under the scheme.
The BRS, it may be recalled, had taken up only double bedroom housing as its flagship scheme and neglected other schemes.
The minister further informed that as the state had not conducted the Awaas survey during January 2018 to March 2019 and as a result eligible households under PMAY-G in the state could not be identified. Thus, no targets could be allocated to the state during the current FY 2024-25.
He added that the government of Telangana has communicated its willingness to implement PMAY-G in the state during the financial year 2024-25. At present, the ministry is facilitating the state in the conduct of Awaas survey for Identification of eligible rural households using face-based authentication in the state.
